Falling back into sin is not something we want to happen, and it’s not something we plan to happen, but it happens. Nothing hurt’s the heart of God more than when one of his children turns away from him. One day you’re standing strong, and the next day, you’re in a downward spiral. The next thing you’re doing is asking God what is happening to you, and what’s going on with your life. When you first accepted Christ as your savior you made an enemy who is called Satan. The day you gave your life to Christ, Satan started plotting your down fall, and he’s more cunning than any animals you would encounter in the world. Be temperate; be vigilant, because your enemy, the devil, is prowling about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 1 Peter 5:8. When you gave your life to Christ you gave up all the sinful lust of the flesh, and took on a new birth, to be reborn, made anew. But Satan has plans for you, and he does not want to see you grow in your Christian walk. One of the ways Satan will execute his plans is by tempting you with a vice from your past. For an example, you use to enjoy hip hop and rap music, but now you love gospel, one day you’re in your car and you have your radio on your favorite gospel station, but today, it seems like they are not playing anything you like to hear. Next, you put in a cd, but you are tired of hearing the same tracks on it, so you decide to scan through the radio stations in hope of finding another gospel station. The scan stops on a hip hop station, and the music that’s playing is really off the chain. You go to change the station, but this little voice in your head says, “ Well, I do enjoy a variety of different music,” or it could say something else. But you leave it on the hip-hop station, and each time you get in your car that’s the station that’s on. The next day, its same thing, back to that hip hop music, because there’s no good gospel being played today. But each day you listen to that hip hop station you start to go into that dream realm, this is where you start fantasying about the things you once did while listening to this type of music. And the more you listen to it, the more it get’s into your spirit, and before you know it, you have fallen back into your old ways and wondering how you got there. Satan will use our weakness against us in an attempt to make us fall. So, if you had a weakness for women or men before you came to the Lord, or if your weakness was alcohol, he will use that against you. But, whatever your weakness was you could count on Satan to use whatever it takes to make you fall back into sin. It is dangerous for any child of God to fall away from the father, because once you are in the grip of sin again, it’s not always easy to break free from that grip. At first, God will speak to your spirit in an attempt to turn you around, he will speak to you through other people, and your mind will think of God’s goodness, and now, how disappointed he must be in you. The word of God says, “For it is impossible to renew again to repentance those once enlightened, and who have tasted of the heavenly gift, and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit,
and have tasted the good word of God, and the works of power of the age to come,
and have fallen away, crucifying for themselves as they do the Son of God, and making a show of him.” Hebrews 6:4,5,6. When unsaved people see you living as you once did before you knew the Lord, they begin to think, there’s no power in the resurrection death of Christ. But not only that, they begin to talk behind your back; snickering, and judging you, but there will be those who will welcome you back into the world with open arms. Let it be known to you, that it is Satan’s objective to pull you away from God, and back into the world. And Satan will use every trick, tactic, lie, and influence to accomplish his task. Never let it get to the point where you are on the verge of falling away from God. You know yourself better than anyone looking in from the outside, so pay attention to the signs, those tell tail signs of falling away. Signs such as, a break in your spiritual pattern, less interest in Bible study, prayer, church attendance, association with Christian friends, gospel music and little interest in television ministry. But your interest is now becoming more focused on, hanging with old friends who shared the same interest as you once did; you start reading ebony and cosmopolitan, but no time for the bible, where it was prayer time, it’s now sleep time, where it was Joyce Meyers, it’s now TV court, and it goes on and on. When you start to see these things happening, right then, is the time to shift in reverse, and start crying out to God to strengthen you. No matter how hard it may be for you to concentrate on the things of God, make yourself do it, and don’t dwell on those thought impulses of sin when they come. Cast down every imagination and thought that is not pure and not of God, For I am demolishing arguments and every barrier that is raised against the genuine<e> knowledge of God, taking captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ, 2 Corinthians 10:5. When these thoughts come, don’t sit there and dwell on them, because just as sure as you are having these thoughts you will begin to act them out. Bring those thoughts under subjection to the word of God, and then put them in their proper place, the trash. Remember, if you are drawn away from God by enticing thoughts, this will not only make you look bad, but Christ as well. I will leave you with theses scriptures in reference to one who falls away.
2 Peter 2:20 For if, after escaping the world's corruptions through a full knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled and conquered by them, then their last condition is worse than their former one.
2 Peter 2:21 Indeed it would have been better for them not to have known the Way of Righteousness, than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy command delivered to them.
2 Peter 2:22 The proverb is true that describes what has happened to them: "A dog returns to its vomit," and "A pig that is washed goes back to wallow in the mud."
