THE TRUTH IN THE WORD

Something About The Name Jesus

The seventy came back and joyously reported, "Lord, even the demons are submitting to us in your name!" Luke 10:17.

The name Jesus, what is it about that name? A name that can send the Devil running, and a name that send chills up a demon’s back. But the name Jesus is also known for creating a riff in families, and can cause arguments in church denominations and in the secular world. The name Jesus brings about a division between Christians and the Muslim sect. It is a name loved by Christians, but hated by those who have the spirit of Antichrist. Today there are still people who hate the name Jesus or Christ, and will even kill you because of his name. The name of Jesus provokes fear in many people, and the mere mention of his name will make them get away from you quickly, or make them change the conversation to something else. Most unsaved people hear the name Jesus they become frightened, because they have heard the word at some point in their lives and rejected it; and to hear the name Jesus, only remind them of the fate that is awaiting them. Just like the demons that were possessing two men were fearful when Jesus confronted them. Scripture tells of this encounter,   And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way. And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?” Matthew 8:28-29. The Demons knew there was an appointed time for their punishment, just as the Devil knows there is a time appointed for him. I can remember many years ago before I was saved I could not stand to hear the gospel, or even the name Jesus, because it made me think of the judgment that was waiting for me in the end. I had been raised in the church and taught about what will happen to unsaved people, but I was enjoying the sinful life, and did not want to be reminded of the fate of those who reject Christ. The name of Jesus has power, even Christ said in the scriptures as read, “And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. John 14:13-14.  The name Jesus is loved by many and hated equally by many, but there is more to his name than just a name to love or hate. The name Jesus belongs to the son of God, God’s only son, whom he sent to die for the sins of mankind. Christ demonstrated his love by taking on a human body, and living among man as a man. He showed love and compassion by healing as many of them who were afflicted by the Devil. Jesus laughed as a man, ate as a man, but most important, he died as the son of god, the savior of mankind. When I hear the name Jesus I see a crown of thorns being forced into his head until his blood ran down his face. To hear that name only makes me think of how the son of god was whipped until they tore his flesh, and ripped open his rib cage. To say his name only reminds me of how they drove metal spikes through his hands and feet, and hung him on a cross between two thieves like a common criminal. Yes, there is something about that name Jesus, it’s the name of a man who loved us so dearly that he was willing to suffer and die for us, so that we could have the chance to live with the father in heaven. This name Jesus belonged to the one and only son of god, who while on that cross took upon himself every sin, sickness, and disease.  Our thoughts should go much further than just his name being the sweetest name we know, but the name Jesus should remind us of how much he loved us and suffered and died for us. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16.
